Sayre Macneil is a mediator and trial attorney with broad experience in trial practice and business matters, ranging back over thirty-one years.
Mr. Macneil is a trained mediator and accomplished trial attorney who has been in law practice since 1984. His experience in the court system has caused him to believe that in many cases mediation is a better alternative than legal action.
Since 1995 Mr. Macneil has maintained a solo practice, emphasizing resolution of business and real estate disputes, through mediation, arbitration, or trial.
Mr. Macneil has been a panel arbitrator for the Santa Barbara Superior Court under its former mandatory arbitration program and a fee arbitrator under the California State Bar Mandatory Fee Arbitration Program.
His legal career began in Oakland, CA with the firm of Donahue, Gallagher, Thomas & Woods, then general counsel for Lucky Stores, Inc., where he gained experience in corporate mergers and acquisitions, federal securities filings, ERISA and regulatory compliance.
Upon moving to Santa Barbara in 1986, Mr. Macneil continued in corporate practice with Seed, Mackall & Cole, handling business formation, banking, securities, secured transactions, and intellectual property matters.
In 1989, Mr. Macneil joined a civil litigation group at Rogers & Sheffield, gaining experience in personal injury defense for public entities, business litigation, commercial and real estate disputes, and writs and appeals.
He has practiced solo for the past twenty years.
"Discourage litigation. Persuade your neighbors to compromise whenever you can. Point out to them how the nominal winner is often a real loser — in fees, expenses, and waste of time. As a peacemaker the lawyer has a superior opportunity of being a good man. There will still be business enough"
